TLA Application Software V6.1 Release Notes Version: 6.1.127.0 Date: June 14, 2013 Contents of these release notes: 1) Description of Release 2) Installation Notes 3) Software Version Table 4) Compatibility Notes 5) Operational Notes 6) Known Issues 7) Contacting Tektronix 1) DESCRIPTION OF RELEASE ========================== The TLA Application Software is the collection of software components required to run a Tektronix TLA Series Logic Analyzer. Tektronix Logic Analyzers are shipped with this software already installed. In order to update an earlier version of TLA Application Software, or to control your logic analyzer remotely from a PC over a network connection, you must explicitly install this software. To install this software, refer to the installation notes below. The V6.1 release of the TLA Application has the following major changes: 1. Tektronix Data Instrument (TDI) - is a new instrument type which allows data import from a Tektronix specified format and/or VCD format. TDI instruments may be added by selecting Add Other Instrument from TLA System menu. Example import files may be found at C:\Program Files (x86)\TLA 700\Samples\TDI Samples. This directory also documentation describing the format and options for TDI import files. 2. MSO Digital Data Import - provides ability to use iView™ for display of oscilloscopes digital channels alongside the analog channels for those models that support the digital acquisition feature. 3. iView over Ethernet - provides ability to connect to iView™ support oscilloscopes through an Ethernet connection in addition to the existing USB and GPIB connection options. 4. Auto Threshold - provides ability to automatically detect signal levels and set the appropriate threshold values for acquisition. Options available for autosetting at the signal, group and module level. Only supported for TLA7BBx LA module types. 5. Parallel Module Input Signal Remapping - provides an option to modify an existing support package setup's signal input mapping. Available by opening TLA7BBx Setup Window, selecting Custom clocking tab and then right-click context selection on "Remap Signals...". Signal remapping is restricted to input changes within a single probe group. Only supported for TLA7BBx LA module types. 6. Channel/Group Setup From Within Waveform Window - group and signal names may now be modified directly from the Waveform and Listing Windows. Name changes are automatically reflected back to the appropriate module setup. Also provides ability to define new groups directly from the Waveform Window by selecting existing waveforms and using right-click context menu "Create Group Definition". 7. Measurements for LA Data Sources - Measurements tab now supports most TLA datasources including LA series, SA series and TDI instrument types. 8. TLA installation includes both TLA7Sxx, TLA7SAxx PCIe module types and the Transaction Window viewer as the default installation. No additional support packages are required to capture and view PCIe data. 9. Note: this release removes iView™ support for the MSO/DPO5000 series oscilloscopes. Contact either your Tektronix representative or the Tektronix Technical Support Center for status information about restoration of this support. If you are upgrading from V6.1.126 of the TLA Application, V6.1.127 has the following fixes: 1. Defining a channel clause in waveform or listing window filter definitions results in an application crash. 2. Drag-n-Drop Trigger panel does not display symbol values when selecting Bus Value trigger If you are upgrading from a pre-V6.0 version of the TLA Application, V6.1 has the following major changes: 1. Supports the new TLA6400 series Tektronix Logic Analyzer. 2. Supports .NET 4.0 framework. Third party plug-ins are backwards compatible and will inter-operate if built using any release between .NET 2.0 and .NET 4.0. 3. Requires a firmware update for TLA7Bxx modules (TLA7Bxx.LOD). 4. No longer includes the PatGen Application with the base TLA Application install, due to the PatGen Application's incompatibility with Windows 7. Patgen users should not upgrade beyond V5.8 of the TLA Application. 5. No longer includes the Protocol Window or Protocol Designer plug-ins. 6. Deprecates the TLAScript Application. Tektronix recommends using TPI.NET to control TLA systems remotely. 7. No longer supports the following modules/systems, which are beyond Long Term Product Support: TLA7Lx/Mx/Nx/Px/Qx TLA7Dx/Ex TLA704/714/715/711/720/721 8. Fixes an occasional failure to update an LA module's hardware settings with trigger settings changed in the UI. 9. Supports all trace depths available on a connected iView™ oscilloscope. 10. Supports drag-and-drop data measurements and statistics for MagniVu™ data. 11. Fixes several calculation errors in drag-and-drop data measurements and statistics. 12. Fixes an exported data corruption problem when using Tektronix Binary Format (TBF). 13. Fixes a Graph Window crash during a long sequence of repetitive acquisitions. 14. Removes iView™ support for the following Tektronix oscilloscope series: TDS600 TDS700 TDS1000 TDS2000 15. Removes iView™ support for the MSO/DPO5000 series oscilloscopes. Contact either your Tektronix representative or the Tektronix Technical Support Center for status information about restoration of this support. 16. Fixes a crash when switching between online and offline modes when the Status Monitor is open. 17. Fixes an issue restoring system files that contained more than 68 characters in the file name. 18. Search Mark in Waveform and Listings windows is now cleared when a new acquisition is started. 19. Create new waveform from an existing data window now correctly includes all groups and channels from the existing window. 20. Supports the TLA7SAxx Logic Protocol Analyzer modules. 21. Improves data search performance. 22. Adds iView™ support for direct USB communication with Tektronix oscilloscopes that accept a Standard-B connection. 23. Provides a new version (V3.3.4.6) of OpenChoice TekVISA, which requires a manual uninstall of V3.3.0.14. (See Installation Notes, Section 2, below for details.) 24. Requires a firmware image update for the TLA7Axx modules (TLA7Axx.LOD). 25. Changes the location of TLA Application log files and problem reports. (See Operational Notes, Section 5, below for details). 26. Adds iView™ support for Tektronix MDO4054, MDO4104, MSO72004, and DSA71254C oscilloscopes. 27. Supports Compound Clocking (multiple clocks and qualifiers, formerly known as Advanced Clocking Mode) in the LA Setup window. 28. Supports changing input channel threshold voltages directly from the LA Setup window's Custom Clocking tab. 2) INSTALLATION NOTES ====================== This version of TLA Application Software can only be used with TLA7000, TLA6000, and TLA5000 Series Logic Analyzers. It can be installed on the following platforms, running Windows XP Professional: 1. TLA7012 Portable Mainframe 2. TLA6200 Portable Mainframe 3. TLA5200 or TLA5200B Portable Maniframe 4. Standalone PC (including the TLA7PC1) used to remotely to control a TLA7016 Benchtop Mainframe This version of TLA Application Software can also be installed on the following platforms, running Windows 7 64-bit: 1. TLA6400 Portable Mainframe 2. Standalone PC (certified for Windows 7 64-bit) used remotely to control a TLA7016 Benchtop Mainframe NOTE: The TLA7012, TLA6200, TLA5200, TLA5200B, and TLAPC1 are not certified for Windows 7. Tektronix only supports Windows XP Professional on those platforms. See Sections 5 and 6, below, for additional information on installing the TLA Application Software on Windows 7. If you install this software on a standalone PC to control a TLA System remotely, ensure that all the TLA software and drivers (including GPIB drivers if using iView™) are installed on the C: drive. Also ensure that the remote TLA System has the same version of software installed. This version requires Microsoft's .Net Framework version 4.0, which is included in the installation package. When upgrading to this software, follow these basic steps: 1. Install this version of the TLA Application Software. You may install it directly on top of an earlier version. The installation program will overwrite the old version immediately, unless it encounters a locked file. In the case of a locked file, the installer will prompt you for a restart to complete the update. NOTE: If you currently are using a pre-V5.8 version of the TLA Application, the installation of a later version automatically installs V3.3.4.6 of OpenChoice TekVISA. You will need to uninstall manually V3.3.0.14 of OpenChoice TekVISA first. The TLA application's installer will notify you of this requirement. You can use the Control Panel's program management applet to perform the uninstall. You will need to reboot your system once after uninstalling the old TekVISA version, and again after the TLA Application's installation completes. 2. If using TLA7S08 or TLA7S16 modules, install the corresponding version of the TLA PCI Express Support Software (also available on the Tektronix website). You may install it directly on top of an earlier version. The TLA PCI Express Support Software has its own release notes. 3. Upgrade Mainframe firmware if needed. When you start the TLA Application a message will be displayed if a mainframe firmware upgrade is needed. NOTE: In a TLA7016 expansion system, you cannot upgrade the TLA7016.upd mainframe firmware file in more than one frame at a time. 4. Upgrade Module firmware if needed. When you start the TLA Application a message will be displayed if a module firmware upgrade is needed. Mainframe and module firmware files are copied to your TLA or PC during installation. To upgrade the firmware, click on: Start > All Programs > Tektronix Logic Analyzer > TLA Firmware Loader TLA7012 upgrades 1. WARNING: When upgrading a TLA7012 from V5.0, do NOT turn on the TLA Server before upgrading the TekLink™ firmware. Doing so will corrupt the instrument firmware. The TLA Server Control is an icon in the Windows notification area (lower right), and is turned off by default after installation, indicated by a red circle. Complete all firmware upgrades before re-enabling the TLA Server. 2. On a TLA7012 running V5.0 and TekLink™ firmware V5.0.074, you must run the firmware loader locally to update the TekLink™ firmware. When connecting to a TLA7012 from a remote PC, the firmware loader fails to display "TekLink" in the choice dialog box, making it impossible to upgrade the TLA7012 remotely. 3. When upgrading a TLA7012 from V5.1, you may see a warning "Failed to register TlnkMonSvc" during removal of the old software. Ignore this warning and click OK. The upgrade will proceed normally. 3) SOFTWARE VERSION TABLE ========================== The following table shows the individual components of the TLA Application Software and their version numbers. Also shown are the other major TLA software components that are external to the TLA Application Software (i.e. installed separately). There is one column for each of the most recent releases of the TLA Application Software. Please review Section 5, Operational Notes, for details about changes that may affect your usage. Windows Compatibility --------------------- The TLA Application and associated software support the following Windows operating systems: 1. Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) 2. Windows Server 2003 SP1 (32-bit) 3. Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit) 4. Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) TLA Mainframe Compatibility --------------------------- This version of TLA Application Software should only be installed on TLA7000, TLA6000, or TLA5000 series mainframes. Module Compatibility -------------------- The supported TLA module types are listed in the table above. Refer to the table to determine which module types will need firmware upgrades when you upgrade to this version of TLA Application Software. Version 6.0 supports the TLA7SA08/SA16 Serial Analyzer modules. However the software and firmware for those modules must be installed separately. Versions 6.0 supports the TLA7S08/S16 Serial Analyzer modules. However the software and firmware for the those modules must be installed separately. Save File Compatibility ----------------------- TLA save files are forward-compatible from the last major release. Saved files from V5.6 and later versions of TLA Application software should load properly on newer versions of the TLA Application Software. TLA save files from any interim release between V5.1SP1 and V5.6 may not be forward compatible to future releases of the application. Only modules currently supported by the TLA application will load from TLA save files. Unsupported modules will be ignored. TMS Microprocessor and Bus Support Compatibility ------------------------------------------------ In general, all TMS microprocessor and bus support packages introduced after a given release of the TLA Application Software require that version of the TLA Application Software or higher. TPI.NET Client Software Compatibility --------------------------------- The legacy COM-Based TPI API is deprecated and no longer supported by Tektronix. If you wish to programmatically control the TLA Application, Tektronix strongly recommends using the TPI.NET API (TLA Programmatic Interface, using Microsoft .NET technology) to develop your application. It provides a modern interface, increased security, greater control, and more flexibility than the legacy COM-based TPI interface. However, if you have a legacy application that uses COM-based TPI on a remote PC and you cannot upgrade to the TPI.NET API, you must install this version of the TLA Application Software, which includes the COM-based TPI client, on that PC. Failing to do so may result in compatibility problems. 5) OPERATIONAL NOTES ===================== The following notes describe functions associated with this version of software that can affect how you use your Tektronix Logic Analyzer. Launching 64-bit applications from the TLA Application on Windows 7 64-bit -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a 32-bit application running on the Windows 7 64-bit's x86 emulator (WOW64), the TLA Application cannot launch a 64-bit application. This limitation applies to the TLA Application's External Tools interface and to the System->Repetitive Properties option for opening an application during repetitive acquisitions. Windows 7 Firewall Settings on a standalone PC ---------------------------------------------- Be sure the firewall on your PC running Windows 7 allows both ingoing and outgoing access by the following executables: 1. C:\Program Files (x86)\TLA 700\System\tla700.exe 2. C:\Program Files (x86)\TLA 700\System\Load32.exe 3. C:\VXIpnp\WINNT\TekVISA\Bin\CallMonitor.exe 4. C:\VXIpnp\WINNT\TekVISA\Bin\SetupTekXL.exe 5. C:\VXIpnp\WINNT\TekVISA\Bin\TekInstrMgr.exe 6. C:\VXIpnp\WINNT\TekVISA\Bin\TekVisaRM.exe 7. C:\VXIpnp\WINNT\TekVISA\Bin\TalkerListener.exe 8. C:\VXIpnp\WINNT\TekVISA\Bin\TekToolbarStartPref.exe 9. C:\VXIpnp\WINNT\TekVISA\Bin\SetupTekW.exe Data Suppression and Filtering ------------------------------ Hiding acquired data samples through the use of Data Suppression, Data Filtering, or Trigger Filtering can have side-effects in the way data windows display data or in the results calculated for data measurements. Location of TLA Application Log Files and Problem Reports --------------------------------------------------------- On Microsoft Windows XP systems, the TLA application's Log Files and ProblemReports folders have moved to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tektronix\TLA 700 On Microsoft Windows 7 systems, the TLA application's Log Files and ProblemReports folders reside Under: C:\ProgramData\Tektronix\TLA 700 DPO/MSO2000 series oscilloscopes only support 1M Ohm probe input impedance -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To correctly display and measure waveform magnitude in iView™, a 50 Ohm BNC pass-through connector must be used at the probe input of the scope iView™ supports waveform display resolutions down to 1 ps/Sample ---------------------------------------------------------------- Oscilloscope data acquired at rates faster than 1 ps/Sample cannot be displayed. Deep-memory iView™ acquisitions with MSO/DPO/DSA70000 series oscilloscopes may require a manual clear between acquisitions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When performing deep memory iView™ acquisitions with MSO/DPO/DSA70000 series oscilloscopes, it may be necessary to press the "Clear" button on the oscilloscope's front panel between acquisitions to clear the oscilloscope's memory. Prime Channels and Edge Detection for TLA7Bxx and TLA640x Modules ----------------------------------------------------------------- When prime channels are present in a TLA7Bxx or TLA640x module setup, the edge detectors used for trigger events and Transitional Storage do not distinguish between an edge seen on a base channel and an edge seen on an associated prime channel. Support Packages loaded onto TLA7Bxx and TLA640x Modules -------------------------------------------------------- Narrow-width support packages will not load onto wider-width TLA7Bxx or TLA640x modules. Setup & Hold Storage and Triggering in TLA7Bxx and TLA640x Modules ------------------------------------------------------------------ Setup & Hold storage and triggering are not available on TLA7Bxx and TLA640x modules acquiring in Custom clocking mode. Synchronous Clocking -------------------- Compound Clocking (formerly known as Advanced Clocking Mode) no longer supports the use of Clk and Qual demux channels. Anti-virus software ------------------- This product is not equipped with virus protection software. If this instrument is going to be placed on a network, it is highly recommended that you add such software. Prior to leaving Tektronix, this product was checked for known viruses and to the best of Tektronix' knowledge, was considered clean of known security threats. Power configuration and settings -------------------------------- Tektronix recommends that you not modify the power-related settings in either the BIOS or the Power Management area of Windows. They are set at the factory to a configuration that is optimal for the logic analyzer. Windows XP user accounts ------------------------ If you add new user accounts on the TLA using the Windows XP User Accounts applet in the Control Panel, the new user may be set up as either a "Standard User (Power Users Group)" or a "Restricted User (Users Group)". This is configured in the Group Membership tab of the User Properties dialog box. The TLA will not operate correctly for a "Restricted User" unless the Users group is given Full Control permission for the "C:\Program Files\TLA 700\System" directory. This is because there are several dynamic files created in the System directory when the instrument boots. Multiple users -------------- Although Windows allows multiple users to login simultaneously, only one TLA application at a time can access a TLA mainframe's hardware. To enforce this restriction, only one user at a time can log into a TLA mainframe. This restriction only applies to TLA mainframes, not to a PC controller connected to a TLA mainframe. To enforce this restriction, TLA mainframes shipped from the factory with Windows XP installed have the "Use Fast User Switching" option disabled in: Control Panel > User Accounts > Select login and logoff options. Similarly, TLA mainframes shipped from the factory with Windows 7 installed set the DWORD value HideFastUserSwitching to 1 under the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System Windows Desktop Search (WDS) for Windows XP ------------------------------------------- The WDS application has been found to cause the TLA application to intermittently hang during power-up of TLA7012 instruments, so it has been disabled on instruments shipped from the factory. External flat panel displays ---------------------------- If you are using an external flat panel display with your TLA, for best operation Tektronix recommends running the monitor's AutoSet procedure which adjusts the monitor settings to be most compatible with the video signal. Refer to the documentation that comes with the monitor for details. 6) KNOWN ISSUES ================ The following list contains information on instrument functions associated with this release of the TLA Application Software. This version of the TLA Application Software has the following known issues and workarounds. Unless noted otherwise, these issues apply to all models in the Tektronix Logic Analyzer Family. Issues that are related to the TLA7Sxx and TLA7SAxx Serial Analyzer modules are not documented here but are documented in the release notes provided with the TLA PCI Express Support Software. No System Trigger present in acquisition data when powered-down iView™ scope is connected to the TLA mainframe's System Trig-In BNC connector ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whenever the TLA mainframe's System Trig-In line is driven low by a powered-down iView™ oscilloscope, the TLA mainframe cannot force a system trigger when you stop an acquisition manually (either by pressing the Stop button on the TLA mainframe's front panel, or by clicking the Stop button in the TLA application's main window). As a result, the data acquired under such circumstances does not contain a System Trigger sample. Simply disconnecting the BNC cable from the TLA mainframe's System Trig-In connector will not correct the issue during subsequent acquisitions. However, either of the following procedures will re-establish correct operation: * Turn on the external instrument, then disconnect the BNC cable from System Trig-In. * Cycle power on the TLA mainframe after disconnecting the BNC cable from System Trig-In. Saving and restoring TLA setups with non-ASCII characters in the file path name ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The TLA Application currently does not support file path names that contain non-ASCII characters. When saving TLA setups, make sure the entire path contains only ASCII characters. Three-way merge of TLA7Bxx modules may occasionally fail -------------------------------------------------------- An attempt to perform a three-way merge may fail occasionally. The failure may occur while restoring a merged configuration from a saved system, or while merging from the System Configuration menu. The failure is due to a software timeout during calibration of the merged modules' communication signals. If a subsequent attempt to merge succeeds, then there is no hardware issue, and data from the merged configuration is reliable. The failure has not been observed in merges of two, four, or five modules. Application may hang during shut down/restart on portable mainframes (TLA6000 series or TLA7012) -------------------------------------------------------------------- If either the power button is pressed momentarily to shut down the TLA, or Microsoft Windows Shut Down is activated from the Start Menu, the TLA application may fail to exit normally. Users should choose to End Now to close the TLA application and continue with Microsoft Windows shutdown. Users may manually close the TLA application before powering down the instrument to avoid this issue. Accessing Autodeskew after manually merging, then loading a multi-module support package crashes the TLA application ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some support packages require merged modules. Manually merging the modules before loading the support package will lead to a crash if the user attempts to access Autodeskew afterward. However, if the user allows the load operation to merge the required modules automatically, access to Autodeskew works correctly. Hidden dialog requires 'ALT' key to continue -------------------------------------------- When loading some support packages, the user will be shown a dialog informing the need to Merge modules. Following a 'Yes' click a second dialog will be hidden and awaiting a user confirmation. The user needs to press the 'ALT' key to surface the dialog and continue the installation of the support package. Error message displayed when changing clock modes ------------------------------------------------- When changing clock modes some channel groups may become unavailable, which causes the disassembler to display an error in the status area. The warning can be safely ignored, but pressing the Details... button will then show a dialog that can be safely ignored and closed. Probe names for clocks and qualifiers are now appended with empty parenthesis () -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This change may affect developers of TPI.NET client programs. VXI-11 addressing ----------------- Although VXI supports addresses from 1 to 254, VXI-11 does not support static addresses above 95. This does not affect the TLA Application Software when it runs locally on a TLA mainframe. However, any time the TLA Application Software runs on a TLA mainframe remotely, the Application will not see modules that have VXI static Logical Addresses from 96 to 254. The modules will not appear in the system. Workaround: Always configure LA Modules to use dynamic Addresses. This can be done by setting the address switches to FF. External Oscilloscope 5X attenuation with analog multiplexer ------------------------------------------------------------ When the Analog Output of a TLA module is connected to an oscilloscope using an iView™ Analog Output BNC-to-BNC cable, the attenuation of the oscilloscope channel is automatically set to 10X by the cable. However, when the TLA is set to 5X attenuation mode, the oscilloscope's vertical scale must be manually set to match. If a standard BNC-to-BNC cable is used to connect the logic analyzer analog output to an oscilloscope, then both the 50-ohm termination and proper attenuation must be set manually on the oscilloscope. External Oscilloscope input impedance with analog multiplexer ------------------------------------------------------------- When the Analog Output of a TLA module is connected to an oscilloscope using an iView™ Analog Output BNC-to-BNC cable, the termination impedance of the oscilloscope channel is not automatically set. In order to see a proper representation of the analog signal on the oscilloscope, the input termination impedance must be manually set to 50 ohms. If a standard BNC-to-BNC cable is used to connect the logic analyzer analog output to an oscilloscope, then both the 50-ohm termination and proper attenuation must be set manually on the oscilloscope. iView™ adjustments to scope settings --------------------------------------- At times, an oscilloscope's settings may be incompatible with the operation of the TLA iView™ feature. In those cases, the TLA application modifies the oscilloscope's settings so that iView™ will continue to function. Among the changes that can occur are the following: * The iView™ feature does not support ET sampling mode on the oscilloscope. To disable ET mode, iView™ first sets the scope to single sample, horizontal roll off, and FastFrame 0. If the oscilloscope still remains in ET mode, iView™ then explicitly places the oscilloscope in IT sampling mode. * The maximum horizontal resolution iView™ supports is 1ps. If an oscilloscope is set to a sampling rate with more resolution than 1ps or that produces a resolution not divisible by 1ps, iView™ attempts to avoid rounding error by resetting the horizontal sampling rate to a resolution of 25ps. In some cases, the oscilloscope's other settings prevent it from achieving a resolution of precisely 25ps; in those cases, the oscilloscope sampling resolution will be set to a value as close to 25ps as possible (determined by the oscilloscope), and rounding errors may affect the accuracy of the iView™ display. iView™ cable with unused oscilloscope ---------------------------------------- When you are not actively using the iView™ feature of the TLA, it is recommended that you unplug the System Trig In connector of the iView™ cable from your logic analyzer. This will help avoid problems with inadvertent triggers generated by activity on the oscilloscope. It is also recommended that the System Trig In of the iView™ cable not be connected when the oscilloscope is turned off and the logic analyzer is in use. iView™ communication issues with MDO4000 and MSO/DPO4000B series oscillocopes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Older versions of the USBTMC firmware installed on MDO4000 and MSO/DPO4000B series oscillocopes can cause unreliable iView™ communication with the TLA. Contact either your Tektronix representative or the Tektronix Technical Support Center for information about the availability of a firmware update. iView™ communication issues withMSO/DPO4000-B Series oscilloscope over USB connected to TLA7012/TLA640x front connections ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When a MSO/DPO4000-B Series oscilloscope is connected via USB to the front USB connections on a TLA7012 or TLA640x Series logic analyzer, there may be intermittent communication failures causing the TLA to crash while acquiring data. To avoid this problem, use a short (<4 ft) USB cable connected to the back of TLA7012/640x or by connecting to the MSO/DPO4000-B Series oscilloscope over Ethernet. Data alignment is incorrect when a MSO/DPO4000 Series oscilloscope triggers a TLA logic analyzer using iView(tm) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When a MSO/DPO4000 Series oscilloscope triggers a TLA logic analyzer through iView(tm), the oscilloscope and logic analyzer waveform edges will appear significantly misaligned. This only applies to non-B models and is due to an inverted trigger out signal from the oscilloscope. Alignment is correct when the logic analyzer triggers the oscilloscope. To get correct data alignment when a MSO/DPO4000 Series oscilloscope triggers a TLA logic analyzer: 1. Configure iView™ as normal, except connect the Trig In BNC cable (red band) to External Signal In on the TLA. 2. Select the System->System Configuration menu item in the TLA Application. 3. In the External Signal In section (top-left) of the Signals tab, connect the External Signal input In to internal signal 1. 4. Set up the desired trigger on the oscilloscope. 5. In the TLA Application, go to the MSO/DPO4000 Series trigger screen and change the Trigger Event to the oscilloscope's trigger. 6. On the same screen, change the scope's Trigger Action to "Trigger TLA Too". You will get a warning message. Select Yes. 7. Go to the Trigger window of the LA module you wish the oscilloscope to trigger. 8. In the PowerTrigger tab, set the trigger to the following: State 1: If Signal 1 Is False then Trigger 9. Run an acquisition. 10. The analog and digital data still will have an offset. Adjust the time offset in the desired data window as needed by selecting the Data->Time Alignment menu item, which activates the Time Alignment dialog. Loading AutoDeskew setups ------------------------- There are several known problems with restoring information into AutoDeskew with a Load System or a Load AutoDeskew Setup operation. After such an operation, be sure to inspect the results in the AutoDeskew Properties dialog box. Detecting transitions in an LA trigger program ---------------------------------------------- The LA modules can be programmed to recognize the transition of an individual channel or a group of channels. For example, "If Channel ABC Goes High then Trigger", or "If Group XYZ Changes then Trigger". Internally, this is done using a transition recognizer which compares values at consecutive sample points. You would expect the output of the transition recognizer to be "false" for the first sample in an acquisition (because there is not a previous sample to compare with). However, for TLA7Axx modules, TLA520x logic analyzers, and TLA620x logic analyzers, there is never a transition detected on the first sample in an acquisition - the transition recognizer output is always "false". For trigger programs that test for a channel that "Goes High" or "Goes Low" or test for a transition recognizer that "Occurs" the extra first state in the trigger program is not necessary because the logic analyzer will never trigger on the first sample. However, a trigger program that tests for a channel which "Doesn't go High" or "Doesn't go Low" or tests for a transition recognizer that "Doesn't occur" still needs to use an extra state. For example: State 1: If Anything then Go To State 2 State 2: If Channel ABC Doesn't go High then Trigger TLA Performance Verification (PV) software compatibility with TLA7000 and V5.1 or higher ------------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to control a TLACAL test fixture from a TLA7000 mainframe, you need a USB to RS232 adapter. The Belkin F5U109 has been used successfully by Tektronix, and is Tektronix Part Number 119-6837-00. TLA520x and Standby mode ------------------------ Placing the TLA520x in Standby mode by selecting Standby from either the (Start > Shutdown) menu or the keyboard supplied with the TLA520x causes the system to remain in Standby mode indefinitely. You must cycle power on the system to bring it back. This will cause loss of any unsaved data or settings.
