This software cannot be used with oscilloscopes in other families (e.g. TDS5000B, TDS7000B, or Windows 7 versions of the DPO/DSA/MSO C class instruments). After receipt of a new oscilloscope or the installation of a new release of software, run Signal Path Compensation (SPC) located under Utilities->Instrument Calibration to ensure peak oscilloscope performance. All probes should also be recalibrated - see Vertical->Probe Cal... This release supports only English. Main Oscilloscope Application ----------------------------- The main oscilloscope application is critical to the operation of the instrument as an oscilloscope or as a PC. The application is expected to be running at all times. Even when minimized on the Windows taskbar, oscilloscope error messages, notifiers, etc. are always posted to the desktop. The only time you should exit the main oscilloscope application is to install other software packages. Version 5.3.5 Release Description ----------------------------------------- This software release is a software maintenance release which fixes a number of software defects in the product. Some of these defects include: * Support for P7520A probe bandwidth filters * High speed serial trigger works more reliably on 70KC instruments * Sub Sample Deskew is now supported on DPO7000 instruments * FastAcq waveforms could misplace triggers (or get stuck) * The scope will no longer indicate that the timebase is locked when external reference is selected even though there is no external reference attached * The GUI and the programmable interface now return the same engineering formats for wave data. * Changing from “Sample” to “Average” mode no longer shows different skews between channels * Acquisition IT mode will now have measurement results that are clipped When overrange/underange values occur * Scope cursor move to center function is now working when zoom is on * MPK ‘a’ symbol is now present for Line Number in Video Trigger * Saved waveform files no longer differ in size based upon deskew values * An unhandled exception will no longer occur when all scope channels are turned off * When setting up measurements occasionally adding a second measurement will replace the first measurement. * When saving histogram data with really small values the output CSV data file will truncate the results to 0 instead of using an engineering notation with greater resolution * Repaired defect that prevented saving hundreds of images to the hard drive through the programmable interface Activating Options ------------------ Some options such as extended memory or advanced analysis and application software are factory installed. If you ordered these options from the factory, they are already enabled and ready for you to use. Older versions of Tektronix application software may not be compatible with the new firmware release. If you have an optional application installed on your oscilloscope, check the version number. Then check the Tektronix website for the availability of a newer version of the application. If a newer version is available, upgrade your application once you’ve completed the installation of the new firmware. If you would like to upgrade your oscilloscope to include one of these options, contact your local Tektronix representative. Once the purchase transaction is complete, you will be given a new Option Installation Key that you can enter to enable the desired options. Refer to the Option documentation for detailed instructions. Windows Clipboard Limitations ----------------------------- The size of waveforms copied to the clipboard when using the Edit->Copy or Ctrl-C key is limited to the size of the Windows clipboard. Therefore, waveforms with a large record length will not fit on the clipboard. A notifier will warn you in this case. The size of the clipboard is determined by the Windows operating system. File Export is recommended for transferring large waveform records. PC Hardware and Software Compatibility -------------------------------------- The DPO/DSA/MSO series oscilloscopes are sophisticated, highly integrated hardware and software systems. The oscilloscope is dependent on the specific version of the PC motherboard and Windows operating system installed at the factory. Any changes to any of the PC hardware or the Windows operating system will affect the performance of the instrument. Do not attempt to modify or update any of the PC hardware, Windows XP operating system components, or BIOS settings. Power Configuration & Settings ------------------------------ Tektronix recommends that you not modify the power-related settings in either the BIOS or the Power Management areas of Windows XP. They are set at the factory to a configuration that is optimal for the instrument. Changing these settings can prevent the oscilloscope from operating properly. Network Security ---------------- Windows XP contains an integrated software firewall that is enabled by default. Antivirus Protection -------------------- If you connect this instrument to a network, we highly recommend that you install antivirus software. Prior to leaving Tektronix, this instrument was checked and found clean of known viruses. Adobe Reader ------------ The Adobe Reader auto-update option is set to check for updates weekly. To disable this auto-update option, complete the following steps: 1. After Adobe Reader is installed, launch the application. 2. From the menu, select Help->Check for Updates... 3. Select Preferences when the Adobe Updater dialog appears. 4. Uncheck the "Automatically check for Adobe updates" option. 5. Click OK. 6. After the update finishes, install any updates or select Cancel. Product Upgrades ---------------- From time to time Tektronix releases new versions of the product software or optional application software. Customers can download these from the Tektronix web site at www.tektronix.com/software. Service Packs and Critical patches from Microsoft made available during the development of the operating system for this instrument were tested and included by Tektronix. Thereafter, Tektronix recommends the installation and use of Microsoft's critical and important security patch updates. At the time of this writing, Microsoft makes these available minimally once a month. To view directions for applying Windows updates, open Internet Explorer and click the Windows Updates button on the favorites bar or open the file: C:\WINDOWS\Web\Microsoft Windows Operating System Updates.htm Remote PC Control Software Support ---------------------------------- The DPO/DSA/MSO series oscilloscopes support Microsoft Remote Desktop. For proper display functionality, the remote viewer should have its resolution set to 1024 X 768 or full screen. Other settings may cause display artifacts. The keyboard Print Screen key may be used to capture a full screen shot of the display. TekLink ------- MSO70000, DPO70000B, DSA70000B, DPO70000C, DSA70000C, and MSO70000C Instruments support instrument to instrument TekLink 2.0 connections as well as instrument to hub to instrument connections. Multi-scope triggering using this TekLink port is supported only on DPO/DSA70000B and MSO70000 instruments. The TekLink hub must be a TL704H 4-port hub. A maximum of four instruments can be connected using this hub. DPO7000 and DPO/DSA70000 instruments have a TekLink 1.0 connector. This port is not supported at the present time. P.O. Box 500 Beaverton, OR 97077 Behavioral Changes: ------------------------- There are no Programmatic Interface Command Changes since Version 5.2.0. Known Issues: ------------- The following list contains information on oscilloscope functions associated with this software release. The current version has the following known issues and workarounds: * DDR sources must all have matching record lengths, sampled at the same time. (That is, mixed live and reference pairs are not supported). * In DDR Search and mark when using chip select with DC signals or no activity, it is recommended that the user configure the software to use manual chip-select level mode and specify the logic-threshold. (Located in the advanced DDR overlay). * The oscilloscope is set-up properly at the factory to login with the appropriate permissions and settings. If additional user accounts are created (for example, using the Control Panel->User Accounts feature), the new user accounts must be in the "Administrators" group in order to use the oscilloscope. Users who are not administrators will not be able to utilize the oscilloscope software. * When using the maximum number of frames in FastFrame mode, be aware that this operation takes several minutes. If the user changes a setting while the oscilloscope is capturing frames, the oscilloscope will stop what it is doing and eventually return control to the user. This process may take tens of seconds. To insure that the oscilloscope acquires the requested number of frames the recommended approach is to stop acquisitions, make any desired settings changes, and then do a Single acquisition. * Math waveforms don't work with FastFrame when too many frames are selected. If you are attempting to use FastFrame and a math waveform and you don't see the math waveform, decreasing the number of frames should fix the problem. * This version provides the capability to set the font for the screen text. There are many fonts available from various sources outside of Tektronix. However, if a font is used which is non-standard then it may result in unhandled exceptions when set as the font for screen text. * When Enhanced Triggering is adjusting the trigger position the trigger readout will display an apostrophe after the event character(s) and surround the readout with an orange border. For example, when using the A (main) Event then the readout will show "A'" when Enhanced Triggering is adjusting the trigger position and "A" when it is not. * The Enhanced Triggering feature utilizes some of the acquisition memory for its operation. If you want to maximize the number of frames that can be acquired with FastFrame then turn off Enhanced Triggering. * Remove TekLink cables before running diagnostics. Some diagnostics may fail or not run properly with Teklink cables connected. DPO7000/DPO70000/DSA70000/DPO70000B/DSA70000B only: * The DVDROM drive in the instrument may be listed as D:, E:, or contain both D: and E: drives in Windows explorer. There may also be a virtual floppy Drive listed in Explorer. By changing a BIOS setting, this problem can be resolved. After the BIOS setting change is made, a tool is provided on the hard disk to fix the errant drive mapping, execute the following tool and then reboot: c:\Tektronix\Reset DVD drive letter\mount2.bat * When using the secondary monitor you may have to reduce the hardware acceleration to prevent blue screen errors. The steps to reduce hardware acceleration are as follows: 1) Right click on desktop and go to Display Properties -> Settings Tab 2) Select the Secondary Monitor (which uses the Intel 945G Embedded Graphics Controller) 3) Right click on the Secondary Monitor and select Properties 4) Go to Troubleshoot tab and set the hardware acceleration to the 3rd notch MSO70000 and MSO7000C only: * When a parallel bus is setup as "clocked" in the bus setup menu, the clock source must be Ch 4 with a clock polarity of rising or falling. Otherwise, the bus will not be available as a choice in the bus trigger menu. DPO70000C/DSA70000C/MSO70000C only: * The malicious software removal tool is not supported by Microsoft on XP Embedded. A free alternative is Malwarebytes, installation is available here: and download definitions here:
