May 23, 2017

The following describes how to upgrade the TG700 to firmware release
Version 5.64

IMPORTANT NOTE:
---------------
If your instrument contains an HDLG7 module, you must perform
an extra step to complete the firmware upgrade. Omitting this step
will cause incomplete loading of the FPGA image to the HDLG7.
follow steps 13 and 14 below under "Upgrading the Firmware" carefully.

Equipment Required:
-------------------

The following equipment is required to upgrade the firmware:

* PC with Windows XP/7/10 and Ethernet interface installed
* 10 BASE-T Ethernet crossover cable or Ethernet hub
* WINZIP or other .zip file extractor

Downloading the Firmware Package:
---------------------------------

1. To download the latest version of the TG700 firmware, navigate to the
Tektronix Web site: http://www.tektronix.com/software.

2. Enter "TG700" in the "Find by model number or keyword" field.
Click on "GO."

3. Click on the link to Software Upgrade V. 5.64, then download the
archive (zip file) to your PC.

4. Use WINZIP or equivalent extraction software on your PC to extract the
archived files into a folder of your choice.

5. The extracted files should include:
tgUpgrade.exe
tgUpgrade.ini
release_notes.txt
Mainframe folder
Target folder

Upgrading the Firmware:
-----------------------

WARNING: Strict Memory Requirements:

If the mainframe does not have enough memory space, you cannot upgrade the firmware. If a downloaded frame picture file is stored in the TG700 mainframe, make sure to move the file from the mainframe to your PC before starting the following procedures. Check the total available memory using the TG7Setup tool. Total Main board memory size greater than 17 MB and 8 MB of free space is required.

1. Install the TG7Setup tool off of the CD in the software package
received with the TG700 Mainframe. It can be found in the
TOOLS\TG7Setup directory and is installed by double clicking on the
Setup.exe file and following the instructions. It can also be
found on www.tektronix.com/software. Search for TG700 and then
select TG700 Software Tools.

2 Activate TG7Setup by selecting:
Start>All Programs>Tektronix>TG700>TG7Setup.exe

3. Press the front-panel MODULE button to display the TG700 main menu.

4. Use the up or down arrow button to select UTILITY, and then press
the ENTER button.

5. Use the up or down arrow button to select NETWORK. Press ENTER and
note the IP address. Enter the IP address that you assigned to
your TG700 in the PC dialog box and click "OK".

6. Select File > Open TG700.

7. Take the two numbers (Free + Used) listed in the Memory box and add
the two numbers together.

8. If the value is less than 17 MB, there is not enough memory to
install the upgrade. This can be fixed by installing the option FP
kit PN: 040-1698-10, which replaces the main board with a 64 MB
version.

9. At the bottom of the window, note the amount of free memory. If
the free memory is less than 8 Mbyte, the upgrade will not install.
Delete or move to your PC any picture files you may have installed
to free more memory. Use the TG7Comm tool in the CD tools
directory to move the files. Then proceed with the upgrade.

Perform the following procedure to upgrade the firmware.
(It is not necessary to uninstall the earlier version of firmware.)

1. Connect the 10BASE-T port on the TG700 rear panel to the Ethernet
port on your PC using an Ethernet crossover cable or Ethernet hub.

2. Power on the TG700 and your PC.

3. Set the network parameters of the TG700. Refer to Setting Ethernet
Network Parameters in the TG700 User Manual for detailed
information about how to set the parameters.

4. On the PC, double-click the tgUpgrade.exe icon in the folder where
you extracted the downloaded archive. The TG700 Upgrade dialog box
appears.

5. Press the front-panel MODULE button to display the TG700 main menu.

6. Use the up or down arrow button to select UTILITY, and then press
the ENTER button.

7. Use the up or down arrow button to select NETWORK. Press ENTER and
note the IP address. Enter the IP address that you assigned to
your TG700 in the PC dialog box and click "OK".

8. If you want to download the signals for the specified module(s),
use the check boxes at the bottom of the dialog box. Normally, you
need not select any check boxes. Select the appropriate
checkbox(es) under the following cases:

* ATG7 check box: when you upgrade the TG700 with firmware
version 1.3 or earlier and use the ATG7 module in it.

* AVG7 check box: when you upgrade the TG700 with firmware
version 2.1 or earlier and use the AVG7 module in it.

* AWVG7 check box: when you upgrade the TG700 with firmware
version 2.1 or earlier and use the AWVG7 module in it.

9. Click the Copy button. The PC will start transferring the files
in the upgrade folder to the TG700.

CAUTION: Do not power off the TG700 until file transfer
is complete. Doing so will prevent the instrument from
starting up normally.

10. When the file transfer is complete, the message box appears.

11. Click the OK button to dismiss the message box.

12. Disconnect the power cable from the power cord connector on
the TG700 rear panel, then connect it again to restart the
instrument.

13. If your TG700 includes an an HDLG7 module, proceed with the
following steps to complete the upgrade. This process must be
individually run on each installed HDLG7 module.

a. Power on the TG700.

b. Wait for all modules to boot up.

c. When "TG700 : PRESET" appears on the display, press the MODULE
button until the "HDLG7[n] STATUS" display appears.

d. Press and hold the ENTER button until you are prompted by the
"UPDATE FPGA" display. Press ENTER to upgrade the HDLG7 FPGA
images. This process takes about 90 seconds.

e. When the "REBOOT" message appears on the display, disconnect
the power to the instrument, then connect it again to restart
the instrument.
