These are the instructions for using the Tektronix TDS/TPS 1K/2K NI LabVIEW SignalExpress Step Version: 2.0 Major feature: Supports power measurements on TPS instruments Date: Nov 2011 This file contains information about using the Tektronix TDS/TPS1K 2K SignalExpress Step. These Steps allow you to control and acquire the data from your Instrument. Prerequisites 1. NI LabVIEW SignalExpress Tektronix Edition software 2. NI-VISA NI-VISA is automatically installed when LabVIEW SignalExpress is installed. Steps for using the Step: 1. Run the setup.exe provided as part of Step Installer. 2. Open the LabVIEW SignalExpress Tektronix Edition software. 3. Click "Add Step" in the LabVIEW SignalExpress Tektronix Edition main menu and select Tektronix-> Acquire Signals -> TDS/TPS 1K/2K 4. The Step appears in the Project View of Signal Express and is ready to be used. 5. Connect the TDS/TPS 1K/2K to your PC. Note: You can check the connection to your Instrument using the Measurement & Automation Explorer or the TekVISA OpenChoice Instrument Manager. 6. Next, select the device in the LabVIEW SignalExpress step by selecting the "VISA Resource" tab and selecting the device in the "VISA Resource Name" drop down list. At this point, the interface is ready for use. General Notes: 1. If you don't see the instrument in the Resource Name drop down list, Measurement & Automation Explorer can be used to help. If this program can't find the Instrument, the LabVIEW SignalExpress software won't be able to interface with the instrument. 2. When the "Signal Express controls the instrument" option is enabled while using the step, make sure to uncheck the option to regain access to instrument front panel. 3. Deleting the step from Signal Express doesn't regain front panel control of the instrument. To be able to operate the instrument front panel, you need to close the Signal Express. 4. After changing a setting within the NI SETE Instrument Step, there may be a temporary waveform transfer delay from the scope to the Step. Notes on Serial port: 1. Autodetect cannot list serial instruments. 2. You need to manually enter the resource address for an instrument with serial port. 3. The serial visa resource will not work if the serial port is claimed by another application/process. 4. At any case if the serial connection fails, empty the visa resource and re enter the address. 5. Sending the instrument settings and waveform retrieval are slow on serial port. 5. Saving the Scope's screen image in case of a serial instrument may not function as desired. Notes on Power measurements: 1. When performing power measurements, the recommended waveform amplitude is to be more than two divisions. 2. Power measurements require proper triggering. 3. For most power measurements proper scaling and minimum 5 cycles are needed. 4. SW Loss values will appear on the scope's screen for any of the power measurements. 5. It is preferred to do autoset and then synch to instrument before we take power measurements.
