Recommendations / Known Limitations ====================================================================================================================== 1. Introduction The TekRxTest Automation Software supports PCIe 4.0 (CEM), PCIe 5.0 (Base and CEM), PCIe PLL Bandwidth (Gen 3/4/5), USB4 (Gen 2/3) and TBT3/4 (Gen 2/3 Legacy and Rounded) calibration and receiver tests (Compliance & Beyond Compliance). The PCIe calibration and tests are in accordance with PCI Express Base Specification Revision 5.0, Version 1.0 and PCI Express Card Electromechanical Specification Revision 5.0, Version 1.0. The USB4 and TBT3/4 calibration and tests are in accordance with the USB4 Electrical CTS Revision 1.02. The Calibration procedure is done by connecting the output of the BERT PPG to the Real-time Oscilloscope through a specialized set of fixtures and cables. The BERT can be programmed to add different amounts of random jitter, sinusoidal jitter, differential, and common mode interference along with variable signal amplitude, preshoot, and de-emphasis and the different parameters are calibrated at two test points. The Receiver tests are accomplished by connecting the output of BERT PPG (which can produce specific test patterns) to the input of the DUT through the same set of fixtures and cables, on which the calibration was done. In case of the PCIe Receiver tests, the Output of the DUT is connected to the BERT error detector to identify bit errors on the DUT Tx traffic, either during loopback or during sweep of one of the stress parameters. Any error detected can be assumed to come from the DUT Tx path as a result of either the DUT experiencing a bad bit-decision at its receiver or uncompensated back-channel loss at the error detector of the BERT. Additionally, DUT Tx traffic can be analyzed to verify the DUT responsiveness to various requests put forward by the BERT during link training process. The Software includes Calibration, Tx/Rx Link Equalization test and JTOL test for PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 technologies. In the case of PCIe PLL BW (Gen 3/4/5), the BERT can be programmed to add different amounts of sinusoidal jitter. Post Calibration, the output of the DUT is connected to the Real-time Oscilloscope, to measure the Transmitter DUT's PLL bandwidth and peaking. In case of USB4 (Gen 2/3) and TBT3/4 (Gen 2/3 Legacy and Rounded), post calibration, the output of the DUT is connected to the Wilder microcontroller to identify the bit errors on the DUT Tx traffic after preset negotiation is done using the ETT tool while sweeping one of the stress parameters. Before starting the Receiver Test i. Launch the BERT MP1900A software as administrator and choose between Standard BERT for SI or Standard BERT for SI and PAM4 (Use the desktop icon or go to the start menu to launch the software) ii. Ensure that the RT Scope and TekRxService are launched iii. Go to the Connections page of the TekRxTest application, enter the IP address and connect to the equipment ====================================================================================================================== 2. SigTest, TekRxService and Seasim The SigTest Application which is available from PCI-SIG and TekRxService are bundled with the "TekRxTest_Application_V6.3.X.X" installer. TekRxTest_Application_V6.3.X.X comes with the following: i. TekRxTest application ii. SigTest_Versions V4.0.52 (to be installed on an Oscilloscope) iii. SigTest_Versions V5.0.21 (to be installed on an Oscilloscope) iv. TekRxService V2.8.1.X (to be installed on an Oscilloscope) Installing "TekRxTest_Application_V6.3.X.X" creates a "TekRxService" shortcut on the desktop v. Seasim Application is required to perform Channel Loss (for PCIe, USB and TBT), Optimal Preset and CTLE selection, and Stressed Eye computation during TP3 and TP2 calibration (for PCIe). To support Seasim application, python packages are needed, and are bundled with the installer. vi. For USB and TBT Rx Tests, make the Wilder environment settings as per the Wilder Software installation instructions. vii. Make sure the latest version (1.0.1 or above) of USB4ElectricalTestToolCLI.exe is available in the RT Scope. ====================================================================================================================== 3. Connecting to the Oscilloscope During Calibration, the software connects to Tektronix 70000-series real-time oscilloscope to perform calibration measurements. If one is not able to establish connection between TekRxTest application and TekRxService, configure firewall settings in the Oscilloscope (for the first time) i. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall ii. Click on advanced Setting > Inbound Rules >New Rules iii. In New inbound rules wizard select Port and click Next > Select specific Ports: 4006 > Click Next (Allow the connection) > Click Next (Domain, Private and Public should be checked) > Name : TekRxService (Save with any name) > Click Finish ====================================================================================================================== 4. Recommendations / Known Limitations a. In PCIe Gen 5/4: i. Amplitude sweep is not supported in Gen5 (Base and CEM) TP2 calibrations while using the Efficient Stressed Eye Algorithm. ii. Polarity issue are observed rarely in TP1 and TP3 calibration due to incorrect triggering. - Restart the oscilloscope in such scenarios. iii. Some parameters like Attenuator Settings, De-Embedding filter file selection, Analysis tool version and Channel Selection will not be validated during "Resume" of a previous calibration report, in case these reports are saved with older versions of the software. iv. Clock Architecture and PWJ measurement details are not captured in the report- Add these details in the comment section for your future reference v. In Tx LEQ Test, if Electrical and Protocol response computation takes an abnormally long time, the application will copy results from the previous run and proceed with the next Preset. vi. The OLH for PCIe Gen 5 and Gen4 do not have the updated snapshots from the new version of the software. vii.Use sigtest version 5.0.21 to compute PWJ measurement b. In PLLBW: i. The plot is not captured in the report, if the report is saved in a maximized wizard, with the table selected. ii. It is recommended doing the measurements with Preset P0 & the jitter measurement pattern as 101010. c. In USB4 and TBT3/4: i. Failures can arise, when Sigtest is used as an Analysis tool for TP3 Calibration for USB4 and TBT3/4. It is recommended to relaunch Sigtest and re-attempt calibration in such cases. ii. The Analysis tool information is not captured in the TP3 calibration report. iii. Automation for Signal Frequency Variations Training test is based on CTS v 1.01. v1.02 procedure (with SSC Calibration) will be supported in the next release. d. Common: i. If the schematic is blurred in the normal resolution, maximize the wizard for a better resolution. ====================================================================================================================== If you are unable to download or install this software, please contact the Tektronix Technical Support Center: Customers calling within the U.S. call 1-800-833-9200 press 3.
