'Resources' group, click 'Software and Drivers'
- The TDSVNM application requires 512MB of windows system memory
- Disk space requirements: ~175MB of free disk space to install and
operate the application
- ATM-1 is trigger module that can be used with this software for
CAN bus triggering
- Either ATM-1 trigger module or ‘LSA1: CANbus Trigger’ option on DPO
series Oscilloscope is required to trigger on CAN message.

- Supports TDSVNM with ‘LSA1:CANbus trigger’ option on DPO 7000 series
oscilloscope.
- Speedy network debug by setting trigger conditions based on CAN
message content such as ID and DATA
- Setting trigger conditions to detect remoter frames,
acknowledgement error frames helps to quickly identify CAN network
communication errors
- Ability to use Oscilloscope standard trigger features with CAN decoding.
- Ability to display header time, in frame response time and response
time in LIN frame plotter
=======================================================================
Features in version 1.1.0
- Oscillator Tolerance and Propagation Delay measurements help in
addressing network synchronization issues
- Simultaneous protocol decoding of CAN and LIN messages helps in
ensuring communication accuracy and acceptable latency between the
two segments of the network
- Ability to link decoded and time-stamped CAN messages to its timing
waveform to more clearly visualize bus functions
- Integrated search functions help to efficiently debug network problems
in the data link layer
- CAN Eye diagram analysis will quickly locate noise in the CAN message
caused by jitter, amplitude aberration, spikes and glitches
- Bus Traffic measurement helps in optimizing network performance and bus
utilization for different CAN message frames
- Support for various CAN configurations: CAN Single Wire, CAN Dual Wire,
CAN Fault Tolerant support makes this versatile application useful
for a wide range of CAN signaling types
- TDSVNM with ATM-1 trigger module
- Speedy network debug by setting trigger conditions based on
CAN message content such as ID, DATA and DLC
- Setting trigger conditions to detect overload, passive error,
active error and remote frames helps to quickly identify
CAN network communication errors
- Powerful conditional triggers such as If-then-else enables engineers
to monitor the CAN network and efficiently capture intermittent
or occasional events
- Characterize long duration network timing performance by triggering
on the nth occurrence of a specific CAN message or trigger only after
a user specified time has elapsed
- Ability to generate ACK Bit removes the need for a receiving
CAN node while testing a single CAN node
- Online help, the PDF of the online help, and Quick Start User Manuals can
be started from:
Start > Programs > TekApplications > TDSVNM > Help
Start > Programs > TekApplications > TDSVNM > Help (PDF Version)

3. Known Problems/Issues
- Before performing any test:
i. Ensure that the probes and test fixtures are connected properly.
ii. It is recommended to do the probe calibration first
If you do not follow the above steps, then the results may be invalid
- CAN bus traffic is expected to be around 35 % on real networks. If traffic
increases beyond 85 % then ATM-1 module mayn’t generate trigger out signal
- Trigger Panel: Settings for generating trigger will not be applicable to
reference waveforms. Please ignore them
- If high or low wire of CAN-FT Tx/Rx is shorted to battery or ground,
ATM-1 may NOT generate trigger out signal
- When DLC is zero, setting trigger on DATA == 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00,
will also generate a trigger out signal
- If the trigger condition is set to trigger on Passive Error frame, ATM-1
triggers for active error frame also
- While running CAN protocol decoding with 'filter' applied to data, if
decoding is run once again without clearing the filter then 'apply' button
will get disabled. Re-run the decoding to enable the apply button
- The protocol Listing Window flickers on resizing it to full screen from
half screen state
- ADA 400A differential probes can be used for the Sensor waveform to
measure the micro and milli volts, But for decoding it is limited
up to 100 kbps only
- In logical and advanced trigger conditions user can set ID for in-range
and out-range by combining standard and extended ID values in a single
phrase. Application converts standard ID to extended and triggers based
on evaluation. However, user can use standard and extended IDs in
IF and ELSE conditions
- The Hide button does not bring the instrument application to full screen.
Clicking anywhere in instrument Application will achieve this.

4. Installation
4.1 TDSVNM(CAN and LIN Timing and Protocol Decode Software)
By default, the TDSVNM application resides on the hard drive of your
oscilloscope. If the application is not installed on the hard disk,
perform the following steps to install the application from the Optional
Applications Software on a Windows-Based Oscilloscope Compact disc
(CD-R/RW/DVD ROM reader):
i. If the keyboard is not installed, connect it to the oscilloscope rear
panel (the optional-accessory keyboard plugs into the USB connector)
ii. Power on the oscilloscope to start Windows
iii. Insert the optional applications software CD in the CD-R/RW/DVD ROM
reader of the oscilloscope
iv. The auto run utility will start the installation program. If the auto
run utility does not start up automatically, browse to the CD-R/RW/DVD
ROM and double-click launch.exe
v. Click 'CAN and LIN Timing and Protocol Decode Software'
vi. Click 'INSTALL NOW'
vii. Follow the instructions given by the TDSVNM InstallShield Wizard.
If JRE software is not previously installed, then the InstallShield
Wizard will prompt for installing it. Follow the instructions to
install the JRE. After successful installation of JRE, choose to
restart the oscilloscope later and continue installing TDSVNM
viii. When the installation is complete, the InstallShield Wizard asks if
you want to restart the oscilloscope. Click Yes
ix. Enter the authorized Option Installation Key to enable the application.
The key is specific to the serialized oscilloscope and options for
which it was purchased. To enter the key number, follow these steps:
a. If the oscilloscope is powered on in the toolbar mode (default), select'
the Menu button (upper right corner of the display) to put the
oscilloscope into menu-bar mode. In menu-bar mode, you should see
a PC-style menu across the top of the display
b. Go to the Utilities menu in the menu bar and select Option Installation
c. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the alphanumeric key number
exactly as it is printed on the rear-panel label. The TDSVNM application
is now ready for use. See 'Starting the Application'
4.2 Installing ATM-1 USB driver
Connect the ATM-1 to oscilloscope, and follow the instructions in the
ATM-1 user manual to install the ATM-1 USB drivers in the oscilloscope
4.3 Installing ATM-1 license key: Use license key supplied by C-H-S in
Utilities >ATM-1 License Installation to enable ATM-1
Please enter the complete 32 hexadecimal number as ATM-1 license key
value (by adding leading zero in case license key is less then 32
characters)
