It includes the following updates: - Support for DPO70E2 Optical Probe. All-in-One Deployment Package ----------------------------- - An all-in-one deployment package is available for download, which contains this new firmware and updated optional applications. This deployment package significantly simplifies the installation of new software. With this package, you can perform one download and ensure that you have all the latest software for your scopes. The installation of the deployment package takes about 30-45 minutes and must not be interrupted until it has completed the installation of all software. Installation Notes ------------------ - This firmware version is not intended for products running Windows XP, i.e. DPO7000, DPO/DSA70000, and DPO/DSA70000B products. - Version 10.8.6 can only be installed on DPO77002SX scopes. - Version 10.8.7 is intended for all other scope models shown in the Compatible Products list above. - Version 10.8.7 cannot be installed on DPO77002SX scopes. - Firmware for DPO77002SX scopes is export-controlled. Contact your local Tektronix representative for assistance in obtaining the software. - All scopes in a DPO70000SX multi-unit system must be updated to the same firmware version. - DPO77002SX scopes must have version 10.5.0 firmware installed prior to installing this version. Users should manually install version 10.5.0 if their scope has not been updated to this version already. - All other scope models supported by this release must have version 10.5.1 firmware installed prior to installing this version. Users should manually install version 10.5.1 if their scope has not been updated to this version already. Initial Turn-on for Standalone Instruments ------------------------------------------ After receipt of a new oscilloscope or the installation of a new release of software, to ensure peak oscilloscope performance, run Signal Path Compensation (SPC) after the recommended warm up time has passed. The SPC item is located in the Utilities menu listed as Instrument Calibration.... All probes should also be re-calibrated - see Vertical -> Probe Cal... When a new release of instrument software is installed, some application software packages must also be updated and installed separately by the user. If you install the deployment package, a compatible version of applications will be installed with the firmware. The latest version of the applications can always be found and downloaded from the Tektronix website. This release supports English only in the scope's graphical user interface (GUI). Initial Turn-on for DPO70000SX Multi-unit Configurations -------------------------------------------------------- With power off, connect the UltraSync(TM) cables as described in the Quick Start Guide. Power on all instruments. Order of power-up does not matter. Once the power-up sequence completes, the Master scope in the system will display the TekScope application window. It is important to run Signal Path Compensation (SPC) whenever there is a change in UltraSync(TM) cabling. This includes the initial turn-on of a multi-scope system. SPC should be run from the TekScope application running on the Master scope after the recommended warm up time has passed. The SPC item is located in the Utilities menu listed as Instrument Calibration.... Powering Down DPO70000SX Multi-unit Configurations -------------------------------------------------- Turn off the Master scope first to ensure proper shut-down of the system. The sequence for powering down the Extension scopes does not matter. Main Oscilloscope Application ----------------------------- The main oscilloscope application is critical to the operation of the instrument as an oscilloscope or as a PC. The application is expected to be running at all times. Even when minimized on the Windows taskbar, oscilloscope error messages, notifications, etc. are always posted to the desktop. The only time you should exit the main oscilloscope application is to install other software packages. Activating Options ------------------ Some options such as extended memory or advanced analysis and application software are factory installed. If you ordered these options from the factory, they are already enabled and ready for you to use. If you would like to upgrade your oscilloscope to include one of these options, contact your local Tektronix representative. Once the purchase transaction is complete, you will be given a new Option Installation Key that you can enter to enable the desired options. Refer to the Option documentation for detailed instructions. Reverting to an Earlier Version of Firmware (non-DPO70000SX series only) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reverting to a version of scope firmware earlier than V10.3.3 in scopes running Windows 7 first requires a system restore operation, which will re-install the firmware version originally shipped with the instrument. Users can then download the most-recent prior version of firmware from the Tektronix web site at http://www.tek.com/downloads. Known issues in this release ---------------------------- MultiSync fast switching ------------------------ Occasionally, the MutiSync fast switching mode does not properly start all of the scopes on a stack correctly. The user should start the scope application on each scope and then select the desired stack mode. Fast Frame limitation in MultiSync ATI -------------------------------------- The frame count is limited to a maximum of 20,000 frames in MultiSync mode when using ATI channels. TouchScreen calibration ----------------------- If touchscreen calibration fails to start from the TekScope Utilities menu, run “ELO Touchscreen Alignment.bat” on the desktop. Pulse Threshold High -------------------- Using a PI command to set the Pulse Threshold High level will not work correctly. Users should use the GUI to set this level. Setting GPIB mode to Controller or TalkerListener mode ------------------------------------------------------ Users should launch the TekGpibSwitcher program in Admin mode to switch between the Controller mode and TalkerListener mode. SignalVu launch on DPO/MSO5000 and DPO7000 ------------------------------------------ SignalVu is unable to launch on DPO/MSO5000 and DPO7000 if the VirtualMemory -> PageFile value is less than 8GB. The user should update the value to 8GB if using SignalVu on DPO/MSO5000 and DPO7000. Setting Trigger Level to 50% ---------------------------- Occasionally, getting the proper trigger edge placement may require more than one press of the Set to 50% button. Using COMM Triggers ------------------- Occasionally, moving between control windows can cause the instrument to lose a stable COMM trigger. Resetting the bit rate, or moving between additional control windows, will restore the trigger. Connecting or Disconnecting P7313 Probe when Probe Setup Menu Undocked ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Connecting or disconnecting the P7313 probe when the Probe Setup menu is undocked may generate a non-fatal, unhandled exception, which can be ignored by selecting the exception warning dialog's Continue button. To avoid the unhandled exception, keep the Probe Setup menu docked. Recalling Setups after Connecting a Tri-mode Probe (P7630 or P7625) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Recalling any setup, including a default setup, after connecting a tri-mode probe without a tip causes two warning pop-up windows to appear: "Duplicate Key" and "Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: '0' Key being added: '0'". Dismissing both windows by clicking their "OK" buttons allows the scope to continue operating normally. Using Scopes with Different Memory Options in DPO70000SX Multi-unit Configurations ------------------------------------------------------------------- When a multi-unit configuration contains scopes with differing memory options, the system is limited to the lowest memory option in the system. If the Master oscilloscope has the lowest memory option, the pop-up message in the GUI incorrectly states that an Extension has a lower memory option than the Master. Checking SPC Status in DPO70000SX Multi-unit Configurations ----------------------------------------------------------- The SPC status shown in the Master oscilloscope's GUI applies only to the Master Oscilloscope. To view the SPC status for an Extension scope, minimize the Configuration Manager Status Window in the Extension's display panel (this is done by double-clicking on the scope model number in the Configuration Manager Status Window). The Extension's GUI and SPC status should then be visible. Saving and Recalling Bus Channel Threshold Values ------------------------------------------------- Recalling a system setup file that contains non-default bus channel threshold values may not restore the expected threshold values. It is more likely to happen after restoring different system setup files, mixed with defaulting the system setup. The correct values can be set through either the GUI or the remote programmable interface (PI). DPO70000SX Multi-unit Fast-Frame Frame availability on ATI ---------------------------------------------------------- After a default setup on a multi-unit ATI configuration, all available frames may not be selectable. Turning on Channel 2 will allow the maximum number of frames to be selectable. 100G Link Training application ------------------------------ The saved setups for 40G Lane 2 and 40G Lane 1&2 have the trigger holdoff incorrectly set to 250ns. Invalid trigger events may occur at this setting. Set the trigger holdoff to 700ms. Importing S-Parameter Data Files when Connecting Probes ------------------------------------------------------- After connecting a probe, wait for the Long Operation Completion message to appear before connecting the next probe. This will ensure that the S-parameter data files for each connected probe have been imported successfully. Using PI Queries with Long Record Lengths in DPO70000SX Multi-unit Configurations ------------------------------------------------------------------ When using the remote programmable interface (PI) to access acquisition records of 100 Msamples or greater, the following approaches will provide optimum responsiveness in a multi-unit system: - If using CURVE? in Acq Run mode, delay ~60 seconds between turning on an extension’s channel and attempting to continuously query the channel’s data using CURVE?. - If using CURVE? in Acq Single Sequence mode, no delay is necessary, and typical OPC/BUSY/SRQ methods can be used, although an increased timeout may be necessary, compared to a standalone configuration - Use alternative queries to CURVE?, such as CURVESTREAM? or CURVENEXT? A-B Seq Trigger Reset Timer --------------------------- The Trigger Reset Timer may default back to 1 msec upon activating the Select Trigger -> A-B Seq Tab. Envelope or Average Mode with Line Trigger ------------------------------------------ To ensure proper waveform display when using Envelope or Average acquisition mode with Line trigger source, turn off Enhanced Triggering in the Trigger Setup control panel. Time Shift with Enhanced Triggering Disabled -------------------------------------------- Changing sample rate between 100 Gsamples and 50 Gsamples causes waveforms to shift by 20ps if Enhanced Triggering is disabled. Frequency Counter on DPO70000SX Multi-unit Configurations --------------------------------------------------------- The frequency counter requires triggers to be generated from channels on the Master scope of a multi-unit configuration. LRN Command ----------- Rather than use the LRN command to restore factory settings, recall a default setup instead. Windows Clipboard Limitations ----------------------------- The size of waveforms copied to the clipboard when using the Edit->Copy or Ctrl-C key is limited to the size of the Windows clipboard. Therefore, waveforms with a large record length will not fit on the clipboard. A notifier will warn you in this case. The size of the clipboard is determined by the Windows operating system. File Export is recommended for transferring large waveform records. Windows Access Control Limitations ---------------------------------- LXI operation requires specific User Account Control (UAC) settings to work properly because it needs access control to change the network parameter configuration. To change the user account settings select Start -> Control Panel. Then, click on User Accounts followed by Change User Account Settings. Change the settings to either Never Notify or Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer. PC Hardware and Software Compatibility -------------------------------------- DPO/DSA/MSO series oscilloscopes are sophisticated, highly integrated hardware and software systems. The oscilloscope is dependent on the specific version of the PC motherboard and Windows operating system installed at the factory. Any changes to any of the PC hardware or the Windows operating system will affect the performance of the instrument. Do not attempt to modify or update any of the PC hardware, Windows 7 or Windows 10 operating system components, or BIOS settings unless instructed to do so by Tektronix. Power Configuration & Settings ------------------------------ Tektronix recommends that you not modify the power-related settings in either the BIOS or the Power Management areas of Windows 7 or Windows 10. They are set at the factory to a configuration that is optimal for the instrument. Changing these settings can prevent the oscilloscope from operating properly. Verifying That Your Oscilloscope’s Disk Drive is Fully Expanded --------------------------------------------------------------- You should always check that the disk drive is fully expanded after performing an Operating System (OS) restore. If the disk has an issue, a 160 GB hard drive may show no available disk space and appear to be only 80 GB. Perform the following steps to fix the issue with NO DATA LOSS: 1. On the desktop, right click on the computer ICON 2. Select “Manage” 3. Click on “Disk Management” 4. In the lower part of the window where you can see (C:) Healthy (Boot, Page File, etc.), you may also see a large unallocated partition next to it. 5. Right click in the C:\ partition and select “Extend Volume” to restore the unallocated partition to the C: 6. Follow the Wizard prompts Network Security ---------------- Windows 7 and Windows 10 contain an integrated software firewall that is enabled by default. The firewall may provide some protection from Network worm-type viruses. Anti-virus Protection -------------------- If you connect this instrument to a network, we highly recommend that you install antivirus software. Windows Defender is enabled in Windows 10 to provide virus protection. Prior to leaving Tektronix, this instrument was verified clean of known viruses. Adobe Reader ------------ The Adobe Reader auto-update option is set to check for updates weekly. To disable this auto-update option, complete the following steps: 1. After Adobe Reader is installed, launch the application. 2. From the menu, Edit->Preferences for Updates... 3. Uncheck the "Automatically check for Adobe updates" option. 4. Click OK. 5. After the update finishes, install any updates or select Cancel. Product Upgrades ---------------- From time to time Tektronix releases new versions of the product software or optional application software. Users can download these from the Tektronix web site at http://www.tek.com/downloads. Be sure to read the “This SW Applies To:” list of instruments to be sure your model is listed. As noted above, product software updates for DPO77002SX oscilloscopes are export-controlled. Contact your local Tektronix representative for assistance in obtaining the software.
